Kurt didn’t really give Sam a time to respond to the initial question, so Sam could only look at Kurt in a confused manner when the punchline was delivered. Blinking, Sam couldn’t help but grin and chuckle, not quite sure what Kurt did with a classic cheesy joke—although, he appreciated that he used a variation of a lame joke in general to break the ice. After all, Sam was the king of being cheesy and lame. “Isn’t that supposed to be my line?” Sam asked, his eyebrows furrowed in pseudo-confusion but his lips spread into a smile, the muscles in his shoulders relaxing subconsciously as the tension in the air lessened.
Glad to see Sam smiling, he shrugged and looked at him. “Well yes, but with the incredibly good impressions, if I may add,” he said and bit his lip gently. Sam was impeccably cute but relaxing and easy to talk with as the same time. “So how about Spencer? She’s growing like a weed, but beautiful as a rose. Time really flies, doesn’t it?” he said, his eyes going back down to his feet and then glancing up into Sam’s green eyes.

“Caesar!” Spencer told Kurt, her smile wide as she gestured to the husky, his ears now perked at hearing his name. Looking from the dog up to Sam, she asked, “Daddy, can I play with Caesar, please?” Raising an eyebrow, Sam let out a small breath and nodded, squatting down and slipping the loop of Caesar’s leash around Spencer’s little wrist. “Just don’t go where I can’t see you, Spence,” Sam told her, watching her as she walked across the sidewalk to the grass where she went to another group of young kids with the dog.
Licking his lips, Sam took a seat beside Kurt, hoping the brunette wouldn’t mind. He glanced at Kurt, wanting to say something, but he couldn’t find it in him to muster any words—and even if he had his voice, he wouldn’t have a clue what to say. Sorry for calling you out for the umpteenth time? To save them both the grief, he simply didn’t apologize for anything so they wouldn’t have to open any old wounds.
“Caesar huh? What a strong name,” he said to her and gave her a smile when she walked away. His legs crossing over once more, he placed his chin over his fist and looked around nervously. With Sam sitting next to him he didn’t want to bring up any bad blood so he turned to him and nodded. Doing his best to start a conversation he thought up a stupid way to get some talking. “How much does Kirstie Alley weigh?” he asked. “Well… we don’t really know, she’s always changing but at some point, enough to break the ice!” Giving him a wink and shooting his fingers at him he dropped back to silence and scratched his head.

With finals having just finished, Sam finally went from being constantly at school or doing schoolwork or studying at home to having more spare time than he knew what to do with. Thankfully Spencer was at the ripe age of wanting to explore every little crevice her bright eyes spotted, thus resulting in her constantly leading Sam through some new adventure she stirred in her imaginative mind. Today, that adventure happened to be soaking in the warmth of the sun while showing Caesar the beauty that is Central Park. Sam held onto Caesar’s leach and listened to Spencer talk on about everything and nothing in a way that only a child can do while keeping his eyes open; being a parent in a city like New York has made him always try to be extra aware of the surroundings he brought his daughter to. Glancing ahead to see if there was any runners or bicyclists he’d have to pull Caesar and Spencer out of the way from, his green eyes happened to fall on an all-too-familiar figure on a bench, his breath hitching at that moment when he realized who it was.
Thinking of the things Sam said to Kurt when they were last together, Sam couldn’t wish it was somebody else sitting on that bench more than that moment. Too many feelings were brought up around Kurt every time they were together, all ones he never wanted to deal with again. But he didn’t want to be an asshole and pull Spencer away, though, so he simply kept his eyes trained on Caesar and Spencer ahead of him. He wanted to just bury his head in the ground, though, when he heard Spencer squeal excitedly, “Uncle Kurt!” He sighed heavily, looking up from the ground to see Spencer run as fast as her little legs could carry her to Kurt, following her at a slower pace. Once he was within listening distance, Sam licked his lips nervously and smiled weakly at Kurt when they finally met each other’s gaze, Caesar curiously sniffing his shoes. “Hey,” he said simply.
His brain saying no, but his heart saying yes, he was relieved and yet alarmed that Sam would have to communicate with him somehow. Hearing Spencer’s cry, his lips spread from ear to ear in a huge smile of joy. “Spencer! Hey girlie,” he said to her and embraced her in his arms and laughed. After his initial excitement was over, Kurt’s eyes trailed up to Sam’s and raised his eyebrows and licked his lips. “Hello, Sam,” he said with an excruciatingly dry and exasperated tone. He quickly looked at the dog and narrowed his eyebrows. He hadn’t seen any dog like this before in Sam’s house, let alone before they had their spat. He must be new and that was Kurt’s ultimate conclusion. “And who is this?” he asked Spencer with a ‘playful for children’ voice.

Central Park @Sam
Walking down the streets of the bustling city, Kurt kept his eyes peeled for anything interesting that could occupy his time. Dressed as nice as his own wardrobe lets him be, it was a beautiful day out and he wanted to take in the air as well as he could. Sure, the air was chilly and had a bit of a nip to it but with the sun shining and the city still at its live state it was perfect for the brunette. His legs taking him to the main entrance to Central Park, he kept his hands in his pockets while he began to slowly walk around and breathe in the air. Although Central Park was the only somewhat green part of the city – other than the occasional plants one would have out their window – it was a relaxing type of nature that when mixed with the city life, had ultimate effect on the mind.
Getting a Sprite from a vendor he got to one of the park benches and sat down. Crossing his legs, Kurt’s eyes scanned all over the park while he looked for maybe someone familiar. Seeing as how he was in New York it was a slim chance anyways but something caught his attention. A blonde headed man and what seemed to be a small child and… a dog were taking a leisurely stroll through the park. And it just so happened to be Sam Evans. His heart speeding up he looked away but couldn’t help but glance back quickly at times.
